a quiet Island escape looks out to the puget sound

Approached beneath towering cedars, Yacht Haven appears quietly between trees and sky. The house rests low in a natural clearing, its form unfolding toward the water. Two wings frame an intimate courtyard, guiding visitors through a moment of stillness before the house opens wide to The Sound. Inside, the architecture stretches toward the horizon — glass, steel, and wood converging beneath a sweeping roof that shelters both home and patio in one gesture. Dark cedar cladding grounds the exterior in light shadow, while the interior glows with the warmth of cedar and Shou-sugi-ban. Each detail balances refinement with restraint, from the radiant concrete floors to the jewel-like tiled baths. The home reaches outward to the sea yet feels anchored to the land — a retreat both humble and grand.

Yacht Haven is a Johnston Architects project, for which Alex Fraser served as Project Architect. He worked closely with owners and contractor, managing the project from initial phases of design through construction.
